Advanced Icon Tutorial #2

TO

Step 1 Open a 100 X 100 canvas. Make the background white.

Step 2 Paste your 100 X 100 image onto the canvas. Duplicate a small section of it (the face of the person would be best) and slide it off to the left. Then slide the original image up so the top is cut off and you are left with a rectangle in the lower right corner. You can, of course, do these two steps in any direction you'd like.

Step 3 Paste this texture on top. Set it to Multiply. Then, take the rectangular marque tool and cut out a rectangle smaller than the white one, so that you are left with a border.

Step 4 This step is optional. I took my rectangle shape tool and made a small white line between the two images, on top of all the layers.

Step 5 Paste this texture on top. Set it to lighten.

Step 6 Now, paste this texture on top. Set it to lighten.

Step 7 Create a new layer and fill it with #F6DE8A. Set the layer to soft light.

Step 8 And, now it gets fun because it's selective color time! Go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Selective Color and hit OK when the pop up comes up. Input the following [excrutiating] color settings (if a color is not specified, leave it alone/at 0):

Reds
Cyan: -100%
Magenta: +18%
Yellow: -15%
Black: +29%

Yellows
Cyan: -100%
Magenta: -100%
Yellow: -100%
Black: -100%

Neutrals
Cyan: +26%
Magenta: -9%
Yellow: +13%
Black: -24%

Step 9 And, again with the selective color. If your image originally had a redish or pinkish tinting, this coloring step should be skipped, unless you want your icon to have a redish hue. Go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Selective Color and hit OK when the pop up comes up. Input the following [excrutiating] color settings (if a color is not specified, leave it alone/at 0):

Reds
Cyan: -12%
Magenta: +75%
Yellow: +30%
Black: +30%

Yellows
Cyan: -100%
Magenta: +34%
Yellow: +7%
Black: +41%

Neutrals
Cyan: +38%
Magenta: -9%
Yellow: +13%
Black: -24%

Blacks
Cyan: +38%
Yellow: -11%
Magenta: +23%
Black: +20%

Step 10 Easy step! Create a new layer above all of your layers. Fill it with #050A2A and set the layer to exclusion.

Step 11 One more selective color layer. Go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Selective Color and hit OK when the pop up comes up. Input the following color settings (if a color is not specified, leave it at 0):

Reds
Cyan: -28%

Yellows
Cyan: -78%
Magenta: +22%
Yellow: +75%
Black: -65%

Cyans
Cyan: +224%
Yellow: -21%

Blues
Cyan: +52%
Yellow: -28%
Black: +11%

Magentas
Black: -35%

Whites
Black: -57%

Blacks
Cyan: +32%
Yellow: -10%
Black: +39%

Step 12 - Final Touches. Now it's time to make use of the random rectangle. I used Times New Roman to first write "Harry potter" (size 6), and then I wrote two lines of jubberish underneath (size 3). I set the font on "crisp" for both, but some people like the way "none" looks more. I then used a brush from 77 Words (fron the "stuff set) and cropped a corner of it and put it in the rectangle. you can use any brush you want, or none at all.
